June Jamboree Is Almost Here!

School’s out for summer! And, the June Jamboree is almost here!

jj_merry_go_round

The Pendleton Lions Club will once again be bringing the town of Pendleton our very own June Jamboree! The Jamboree takes place Tuesday, June 3rd through Saturday, June 7th! This annual Pendleton tradition that goes hand-in-hand with the end of the school year! Now that the kids are out of school, it’s time to celebrate with the jamboree.

Bring your families to Falls Park for the June Jamboree and enjoy the “famous” Kiwanis K-Burgers, funnel cakes, corn on the cob, cotton candy and all the well-known carnival food favorites. The park will be lined with rides for the kids, the ferris wheel, carousel, carnival games and other attractions. The vender tent will also be in the middle of the park to meet and talk with local businesses and service providers.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from a Lions Club member or at Marsh. The rides will all be one ticket. There is no admission charge to come out to the Jamboree…so load up the car and come visit this annual event to kickstart your summer!

Chartered in 1927 with around 50 members, the June Jamboree is just one of many of the events the Pendleton Lions Club puts on each year in Pendleton. The Pendleton Lions Club uses funds raised from the Jamboree to sponsor eyeglasses for children and also local Boy Scout troops.

Another key group that makes the annual Jamboree possible each year is Luehrs’ Ideal Rides, Inc. Luehrs provides fun rides and carnival games for all to enjoy!

Shop Local. Check Out Farmer’s Markets Around Us.

Part of the fun living in a small town like ours is the tight-knit community we have and the events we are able to enjoy.

Each Saturday, farmers around the area fill markets with locally grown fruits, vegetables, homemade cookies, pies, crafts, art and more. We can start our Saturday morning with a stroll through the park shaking hands and talking with those who have harvested the food, prepared it and crafted the artistic designs. It takes the notion of “shop local” to the grassroots level.

Rugged Run This Weekend…Have You Heard?

So, this is exciting! This Saturday, May 10th, is the First Annual Rugged Run at Falls Park to benefit the South Madison Food Pantry.

rugged run

What is the Rugged Run? The YMCA put together this race which features a Canned Food Challenge, where runners carry a pack of canned goods, to be donated to the South Madison Food Pantry, throughout the race course. The heavier the pack, the better…as the heaviest pack will win a prize!

The winner will win either a three-month YMCA membership or a Fall Creek Golf Club round of golf for four. The runner-up will receive the prize not chosen by the winner.

In addition to those racing with packs of canned food, the South Madison Food Pantry will be accepting canned food donations near the start/finish line from 9 to 11 a.m. So, even if you’re not in the mood to run/walk the race, come out with canned goods to support our local food pantry!

You can register the morning of the event from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. with cash, check or money order payments. The cost of the race is $30 for ages 21 and older and $25 for ages under 21. Click here to download the registration form.

Get out there and support our community and local food pantry in this first annual event!
