It’s National DOG Day!

Yes, that’s right…today is THE day to officially celebrate our beloved canines. It’s National Dog Day!

National Dog Day was created by the National Dog Day Foundation in an effort to promote adoption of rescue dogs and to support local pet shelters across the country.

Many of you know my awesome sidekick, Steve the bulldog, who often goes on showings with me. He’s quite a social butterfly…he loves to meet new people and check out new places around town. I always treat him with a dog biscuit and an “atta boy” when we’re out and about taking care of my clients.

So, today, in honor of National Dog Day, take a little extra time to give a little TLC to your very own “man’s best friend” who is unconditionally happy to see you when you return home. And, if you’re considering adding to your family with a four-legged companion, consider rescuing a dog!

Our very own Friends for Paws is a local, not for profit organization focused on placing dogs and other animals who are otherwise homeless. Friends for Paws takes the utmost care to foster stray dogs and find them loving forever homes. Each canine is microchipped, spayed/neutered and made up-to-date on all vaccinations. If you’re in the market to add to your family, please consider contacting Friends for Paws!

So, get out there and enjoy National Dog Day with your four-legged family members!

Public Safety Day is Sunday!

Come downtown to the Pendleton Fire Department this Sunday, August 25 to enjoy Public Safety Day!

This annual event is from 1 to 4 p.m. Lifeline helicopter and crew will land between 1 and 1:30 p.m. If you’ve never been at the Safety Day to watch this landing, it really is an incredible sight!

Bring the kiddos down to the fire station to get up close and personal with the fire trucks, ambulances and rescue vehicles. Enjoy fire truck rides through downtown Pendleton, a K9 demonstration, food and fire safety fun.

The Pendleton Masonic Lodge #44 will also be sponsoring a free child identification program. Children will be photographed and given a free ID card.

Fairs and Jamborees…Just the Way to Wind Down Summer!

Well, it somehow managed to get here…and quickly! The end summer break is here! As the kids find out their homeroom teachers, classmates and locker numbers, enjoy your last weekend of “summer” at some of our local jamborees and fairs.

Today opens the Markleville Jamboree…a tradition in the making for over 20 years. This year’s theme is “Markleville Shines On” and runs today through Sunday, August 4.

And, of course, our very own Indiana State Fair begins tomorrow, Friday, August 2nd! This year’s State Fair is coining the theme “The Year of Popcorn.” Did you know that our Hoosier state is the nation’s second largest popcorn producer? Yes, that’s right…and popcorn will be the featured product at this year’s Indiana State Fair. Indiana’s own Pop Weaver is one of the sponsors. Weaver Popcorn Company was founded in 1928 by Indiana native Reverend Ira Weaver. Over 80 years later, Weaver Popcorn remains a family owned company growing its corn in Indiana and throughout the midwest. Weaver provides 30% of the world’s popcorn and distributing to over 90 countries across the globe. Not too shabby for an Indiana company! And in addition to popcorn, what would summertime be without the tasting this year’s “fried food” feature, ice cream from Dairy Barn or hopping on some rides in the Midway? To view the schedule of activities and events, click here.

So, pack the car full of the kids and get out there to enjoy these local festivals and fairs! I hope you have a wonderful last weekend of summer break!
